Dear Fellow Members,

The Club joins the nation in celebrating the 57th Merdeka Day on 31 August 2014. We would also like to extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones, friends and colleagues on MH17. The Club had accordingly postponed the Presidents’ Ball which was planned for 16 August 2014 to commemorate the 124th year of founding of the Club, to mark our solemn respect and mourning for those who have perished.

In my message in the Jan/Feb issue of the Newsletter, I had alluded to the many application and compatibility problems encountered by our Finance Department after the adoption of a new computer software system from December 2012. The setback has persisted and continued until this day. This has resulted in the late generation of your monthly financial statements and the slight delay in the e-statement implementation. Please be assured that our management is working hard to resolve this impediment.

Progress on the investigative audit has been somewhat slow as the Management is still pouring in hours to laboriously dig up past accounting documents and records to rebuild the books. This had proven to be an onerous task as all the staff previously responsible for filing such documents are no longer in our employ. We are, however, observing useful accounts data reconciliation along the way.

The IT Department will now be made an independent operation under a new IT Sub-Committee in line with the GC’s desire that the Club’s operations and processes should progressively be synthesized with IT computerization to improve management productivity and better connectivity with Members. The IT Sub-Committee has also been tasked to draw up a 5 year IT Master Plan to set the course for the Club.

The refurbishment and upgrading works on the Main Kitchen is now under further review to meet the high food quality, hygiene expectations; and utility costs containment. Your General Committee firmly believes that any further expansion of the Main Kitchen should dovetail with the plans to expand and improve our food outlets service standard to provide Members with better quality food and beverage experience in the Club.

As for the refurbishment and upgrading works to our Men's Changing Room, tenders had been called on 8 August 2014 and tender bids to be submitted by 25 August 2014. After due process of evaluation by our Consultants and our Tender Committee, we would expect the contract to be awarded by 15 September 2014. We are targeting to complete the job in eight weeks.

I am pleased to announce that Ms Jenny Oh has joined us as our new Finance Manager from 4 August 2014. We hope to see the Finance Department in better control and order under her leadership.

The Club has been operating without a Finance Manager since May 2014. Mr Stanley Leng, a Member of the Club, has volunteered himself to help manage the department during the interim period. The Club would like to record our profound appreciation and gratitude to Mr Stanley Leng for his selfless dedication and contribution to the Club.

Till our next issue, Happy Clubbing.
